The St. George Sunday School plays an integral role in development, growth and future of the Armenian church in the community. Led by a dedicated group of educational leaders and devoted parents, the Sunday School provides children from ages 4 to 18 a foundation and basis for the learning of their historic Armenian religion, heritage and church doctrine and creed. The Sunday School is the training ground of young minds who will become the future active members of the parish.
The Sunday School’s primary objectives are:
- to promote the importance of God.
- to instill in the students Armenian and Christian values and an appreciation for the Armenian culture and heritage.
- to teach the importance of respecting God, their parents, themselves and others;
- to foster friendship among the students and the parents
The curriculum is prepared by the Diocese of the Armenian Church and includes the life and teachings of Christ, the traditions and history of the Armenian Church, and the sacraments of the Armenian Church. Classes begin at 10:15 a.m. and end at 12:00 noon every Sunday, September through June. Typically, each session comprises class-time and church attendance. There are many special programs in addition such as assemblies, service projects, crafts and other activities that enrich the basic program. The Sunday School holds an annual pancake breakfast and egg coloring for Easter Sunday and sponsors the annual Christmas Pageant. Please contact Co-Superintendents Virginia Wasynczuk (860) 295-9038 and Cynthia Messikian (860) 568-5792 for further information and details.
Why Sunday School?
One of the most important “tasks” for every Christian is to know and love God, the source and center of all life, through His Son Jesus Christ. “If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” (John 8:19)
